Theta waves meditation can help you to reprogram your mind and reconnect with your viewpoints or ideas. The theta waves generated in this form of meditation allow you to enter your subconscious, getting you in touch with it.

Like to find out what theta waves meditation is and exactly how it functions? Let’s begin by defining what theta is. Theta is a brainwave that has the 2nd slowest frequency at 4 – 7 Hz. So how do the theta mind-calming method work exactly? For a start, they raise the degrees of serotonin and melatonin, the hormone chemicals that are essential to treating sleeplessness and sadness, therefore enhancing these healthy conditions efficiently.

In our daily life, our human brain functions on the beta range of frequencies, from 12 – 30 Hz throughout the day. Without the help of theta meditation, it is generally very hard for an ordinary human to get to the theta frequency

What are THETA Brain waves? Difference from ALPHA waves?

soonhlimBrain wave states describe our natural brain rhythms from a fully alert state to a fully deep sleep state. I’ll list them all in order with short descriptions so you can more easily get an idea of the differences. Descriptions came from various websites so may vary.

Gamma Waves average around 40 Hz. Gamma waves are the fastest of the brainwave frequencies and signify the highest state of focus possible. They are associated with peak concentration and the brain’s optimal frequency for cognitive functioning. In the Gamma state, your brain is running at full capacity. It can be used during concentrated work or study/learning, whether it be paperwork or athletic.

Beta Waves range between 13-40 Hz. You are wide-awake, alert. Your mind is sharp, focused. It makes connections quickly, easily, and you’re primed to do work that requires your full attention. In the Beta state, neurons fire abundantly, in rapid succession, helping you achieve peak performance. New ideas and solutions to problems flash like lightening into your mind. (I think this description considers the average and above, as 13 Hz would be more like a couch potato in my mind.)

Alpha Waves range between 7-13 Hz. The Alpha state is an intensely pleasurable and relaxed state of consciousness, essential for stress reduction. Alpha is associated with deep physical and mental relaxation. This is a good place for meditation, day dreaming, and trained remote viewing. (Poster’s Note: This is also a good state to put young children during story-book time before bed!) Alpha waves instill a sense of mild euphoria, calm your body, reduce Cortisol levels, strengthen your immune system and counteract the negative effects of stress. Alpha waves also increase the production of Melatonin to greatly improve the quality of your sleep.

Theta Waves range between 4-7 Hz. The Theta state is where brain activity slows almost to the point of deep sleep, but not quite. It rests directly on the threshold of your subconscious. Theta is one of the more elusive and extraordinary realms you can explore. It is also known as the twilight state which you normally only experience fleetingly upon waking, or drifting off to sleep. This state is extremely hard to stay in for any length of time unless it comes naturally, by hypnosis, advanced meditation, or trance mediumship. This is the range you can be in ‘Mind Awake, Body Asleep’ states (sleep paralysis), lucid dreaming, OBE’s and the regular dream state (REM sleep).

Delta Waves range between 0-4 Hz. Delta waves are the slowest of all five brainwave frequencies. In the Delta state you are in a deep, sound, dreamless sleep. It is the deepest of sleep states and it plays a vital role in health and well being.

I suppose these to be the basics. Since you asked this question before and apparently didn’t like the answer, the only other thing I can say is: If you need more information, you have the names so just Google them. All kinds of information is out there. Whether it is all truthful or not depends on what the site is trying to sell, so you may have to look at many different sites to see what agrees and discern for yourself.

soonhlimI believe that theta waves have a strong connection with the hippocampus glands which could explain the loss of time. Also, something to do with the right temporoparietal lobe is affected in states of dissociation and derealization with meditation. You could probably look it up on Google. Get some lucid dreaming books by Dr. Stephen LaBerge and learn the W.I.L.D. (Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming) technique. This will help you maintain lucidity and focus throughout meditative as well as dreaming states.

Ganzfeld produces alpha waves. Is there a biofeedback technique for producing theta?

soonhlimZen meditation might work for you.

“The theta rhythm state is defined as a dominance for 4-7 Hertz brainwaves. Transient elevation of theta occur during Zen meditation (Kassamatsu & Hirai, 1969) or while entering the early stages of sleep and are reported to be associated with vivid visualization, imagery and dream-like states. The origin of theta waves is predominately the hippocampus (Michel et al., 1991), although theta activity can be recorded throughout the cortex and cerebellum (Green, Green & Walters, 1971).”
